Definition of 'Adiponectin'

A 30-kDa COMPLEMENT C1Q-related protein, the most abundant gene product secreted by FAT CELLS of the white ADIPOSE TISSUE. Adiponectin modulates several physiological processes, such as metabolism of GLUCOSE and FATTY ACIDS, and immune responses. Decreased plasma adiponectin levels are associated with INSULIN RESISTANCE; TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS; OBESITY; and ATHEROSCLEROSIS.

Common names: Adiponectin; Adipocyte Complement-Related Protein 30-kDa; Adipocyte Complement Related Protein 30 kDa; Adipose Most Abundant Gene Transcript 1; apM-1 Protein; apM 1 Protein; ACRP30 Protein; Adipocyte, C1q and Collagen Domain Containing Protein

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, adiponectin and insulin resistance in dipper and nondipper essential hypertensive patients.

30 Oct 2008 OBJECTIVE: The pathogenesis of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is multifactorial, and the presence of insulin resistance is recognized as the pathophysiological hallmark of this condition. Arterial hypertension is referred as an ... Read more...

Suppressor of cytokine signaling-3 (SOCS-3) and a deficit of serine/threonine (Ser/Thr) phosphoproteins involved in leptin transduction mediate the effect of fructose on rat liver lipid metabolism.

30 Oct 2008 There is controversy regarding whether fructose in liquid beverages constitutes another dietary ingredient of high caloric density or introduces qualitative changes in energy metabolism that further facilitate the appearance of metabolic diseases. ... Read more...

The adiponectin receptors AdipoR1 and AdipoR2 activate ERK1/2 through a Src/Ras-dependent pathway and stimulate cell growth.

7 Oct 2008 Adiponectin is an adipocyte-derived cytokine that has attracted much attention because of its insulin-sensitizing effects in liver and skeletal muscle. Two adiponectin receptors, AdipoR1/R2, have been cloned, but relatively little is known about ... Read more...
