Agnosia - Physiopathology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Agnosia'Loss of the ability to comprehend the meaning or recognize the importance of various forms of stimulation that cannot be attributed to impairment of a primary sensory modality. Tactile agnosia is characterized by an inability to perceive the shape and nature of an object by touch alone, despite unimpaired sensation to light touch, position, and other primary sensory modalities. Common names: Agnosia; Agnosias; Agnosia for Smell; Olfactory Agnosia; Agnosia, Olfactory; Agnosias, Olfactory; Olfactory Agnosias; Agnosia for Taste; Agnosia for Tastes; Agnosia for Temperature; Auditory Agnosia; Agnosia, Auditory; Agnosias, Auditory; Auditory Agnosias; Auditory Agnosia, Congenital |

The assessment of auditory function in CSWS: lessons from long-term outcome.
30 Jul 2009
In Landau-Kleffner syndrome (LKS), the prominent and often first symptom is auditory verbal agnosia, which may affect nonverbal sounds. It was early suggested that the subsequent decline of speech expression might result from defective auditory ... Read more...
Direct tactile stimulation of dorsal occipito-temporal cortex in a visual agnosic.
26 May 2009
The human occipito-temporal cortex is preferentially activated by images of objects as opposed to scrambled images. Touching objects (versus textures) also activates this region. We used neuropsychological fMRI to probe whether dorsal regions of the ... Read more...
29 Apr 2009
We propose a novel methodical approach to lesion analyses involving high-resolution MR images in combination with probabilistic cytoarchitectonic maps. 3D-MR images of the whole brain and the manually segmented lesion mask are spatially normalized ... Read more...
