alpha 1-Antitrypsin - Immunology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'alpha 1-Antitrypsin'Plasma glycoprotein member of the serpin superfamily which inhibits TRYPSIN; NEUTROPHIL ELASTASE; and other PROTEOLYTIC ENZYMES. Commonly referred to as alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor (A1PI), it exists in over 30 different biochemical variant forms known collectively as the Pi (protease inhibitor) system. Hereditary A1PI deficiency is associated with PULMONARY EMPHYSEMA. Common names: alpha 1-Antitrypsin; alpha 1 Antitrypsin; alpha 1-Proteinase Inhibitor; Inhibitor, alpha 1-Proteinase; alpha 1 Proteinase Inhibitor; Trypsin Inhibitor, alpha 1-Antitrypsin; Trypsin Inhibitor, alpha 1 Antitrypsin; alpha 1-Antiproteinase; 1-Antiproteinase, alpha; alpha 1 Antiproteinase; A1PI |

BACKGROUND: Prostate specific antigen (PSA)-alpha1-protease inhibitor complex (PSA-API) is a minor form of PSA in serum. It may be useful for prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis, but its specific detection is hampered by nonspecific background. To avoid ... Read more...
