Alternative Splicing - Research News and Information
Wednesday, January 07, 2009
Definition of 'Alternative Splicing'A process whereby multiple RNA transcripts are generated from a single gene. Alternative splicing involves the splicing together of other possible sets of EXONS during the processing of some, but not all, transcripts of the gene. Thus a particular exon may be connected to any one of several alternative exons to form a mature RNA. The alternative forms of mature MESSENGER RNA produce PROTEIN ISOFORMS in which one part of the isoforms is common while the other parts are different. |
LKB1: cancer, polarity, metabolism, and now fertility.
13 Nov 2008
The LKB1 serine/threonine kinase is a tumour suppressor responsible for the inherited familial cancer disorder Peutz-Jeghers syndrome and is inactivated in a large percentage of human lung cancers. LKB1 acts a master kinase, directly ... Read more...

BACKGROUND: Earlier studies have indicated that cell surface expressed CD200, or a soluble form of this molecule, can induce immunosuppression in a number of biological systems, and promote increased graft acceptance, after binding to receptors ... Read more...
VEGF-A splicing: the key to anti-angiogenic therapeutics?
14 Oct 2008
The physiology of microvessels limits the growth and development of tumours. Tumours gain nutrients and excrete waste through growth-associated microvessels. New anticancer therapies target this microvasculature by inhibiting vascular endothelial ... Read more...
