Amblyopia - Research News and Information
Wednesday, January 07, 2009
Definition of 'Amblyopia'A nonspecific term referring to impaired vision. Major subcategories include stimulus deprivation-induced amblyopia and toxic amblyopia. Stimulus deprivation-induced amblyopia is a developmental disorder of the visual cortex. A discrepancy between visual information received by the visual cortex from each eye results in abnormal cortical development. STRABISMUS and REFRACTIVE ERRORS may cause this condition. Toxic amblyopia is a disorder of the OPTIC NERVE which is associated with ALCOHOLISM, tobacco SMOKING, and other toxins and as an adverse effect of the use of some medications. |
Emergence of diplopia and oscillopsia due to Heimann-Bielschowsky phenomenon after cataract surgery.
29 Sep 2008
The Heimann-Bielschowsky phenomenon (HBP) refers to coarse vertical oscillation of the eye with impaired vision. The ocular movements are strictly monocular, occurring only in the eye with amblyopia. The vertical oscillation is of equal velocity in ... Read more...

30 Aug 2008
PURPOSE: To investigate the relationship between the subjectively experienced misperceptions and the objectively determined two-dimensional spatial displacement maps in subjects with strabismic and anisometropic amblyopia. METHODS: Seventeen ... Read more...

Pupillary responses to light were recorded in three patients with unilateral extensive myelinated nerve fibers and amblyopia by means of binocular infrared video pupillography. All of the patients had an afferent pupillary defect in the eye with ... Read more...
