Amnesia - Pathology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Amnesia'Pathologic partial or complete loss of the ability to recall past experiences (AMNESIA, RETROGRADE) or to form new memories (AMNESIA, ANTEROGRADE). This condition may be of organic or psychologic origin. Organic forms of amnesia are usually associated with dysfunction of the DIENCEPHALON or HIPPOCAMPUS. Distinct hippocampal and basal ganglia contributions to probabilistic learning and reversal.
30 Aug 2009
The hippocampus and the basal ganglia are thought to play fundamental and distinct roles in learning and memory, supporting two dissociable memory systems. Interestingly, however, the hippocampus and the basal ganglia have each, separately, been ... Read more...
Conversion of amyloid positive and negative MCI to AD over 3 years: an 11C-PIB PET study.
6 Jul 2009
BACKGROUND: Patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI) represent an important clinical group as they are at increased risk of developing Alzheimer disease (AD). (11)C-PIB PET is an in vivo marker of brain amyloid load. OBJECTIVE: To ... Read more...

INTRODUCTION: Memory impairment caused by bilateral hippocampal primitive brain tumor is rarely reported. Clinical and MRI features can mimic paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis (PLE), and the differential diagnosis between these 2 entities may be ... Read more...
