Amnesia - Physiopathology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Amnesia'Pathologic partial or complete loss of the ability to recall past experiences (AMNESIA, RETROGRADE) or to form new memories (AMNESIA, ANTEROGRADE). This condition may be of organic or psychologic origin. Organic forms of amnesia are usually associated with dysfunction of the DIENCEPHALON or HIPPOCAMPUS. (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, pp426-7) Common names: Amnesia; Amnesias; Amnesia-Memory Loss; Amnesia Memory Loss; Amnesia-Memory Losses; Amnesia, Global; Amnesias, Global; Global Amnesia; Global Amnesias; Amnestic State; Amnestic States; State, Amnestic; States, Amnestic; Amnesia, Tactile; Amnesias, Tactile; Tactile Amnesia; Tactile Amnesias |

Impaired category fluency in medial temporal lobe amnesia: the role of episodic memory.
31 Aug 2009
Memory tasks are often classified as semantic or episodic, but recent research shows that these types of memory are highly interactive. Category fluency, for example, is generally considered to reflect retrieval from semantic memory, but behavioral ... Read more...
Brain targeting of nerve growth factor using poly(butyl cyanoacrylate) nanoparticles.
30 Aug 2009
The nerve growth factor (NGF) is essential for the survival of both peripheral ganglion cells and central cholinergic neurons in the basal forebrain. The accelerated loss of central cholinergic neurons during Alzheimer's disease may be a determinant ... Read more...
Delaying interference enhances memory consolidation in amnesic patients.
30 Aug 2009
Some patients with amnesia are able to retain new information for much longer than expected when the time that follows new learning is devoid of further stimuli. Animal work shows that the absence or delaying of interference improves long-term ... Read more...
