Amnesia, Retrograde
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Amnesia, Retrograde'Loss of the ability to recall information that had been previously encoded in memory prior to a specified or approximate point in time. This process may be organic or psychogenic in origin. Organic forms may be associated with CRANIOCEREBRAL TRAUMA; CEREBROVASCULAR ACCIDENTS; SEIZURES; DEMENTIA; and a wide variety of other conditions that impair cerebral function. Thalamic contributions to anterograde, retrograde, and implicit memory: a case study.
14 Jun 2009
Learning and memory deficits are typically associated with damage or dysfunction of medial temporal lobe structures; however, diencephalic lesions are another common cause of severe and persistent memory deficits. We focus specifically on the ... Read more...
Apical ballooning resulting from limbic encephalitis.
30 May 2009
BACKGROUND: Neurogenic stunned myocardium is an increasingly recognized cause of left ventricular apical ballooning, or takotsubo cardiomyopathy. We report the first case of neurogenic stunned myocardium as a result of limbic encephalitis. METHODS: ... Read more...
Supra-normal age-linked retrograde amnesia: lessons from an older amnesic (H.M.).
29 Apr 2009
MacKay and James (2001) demonstrated greater-than-normal retrograde amnesia (RA) for lexical-semantic information in amnesic H.M., a deficit that worsened with aging or represented supranormal age-linked RA (SARA). The present experiments extend ... Read more...
