Cortical inhibition during burst suppression induced with isoflurane anesthesia.

3 Aug 2009 Isoflurane is a widely used anesthetic which safely and reversibly induces deep coma and associated burst suppression (BS) electroencephalographic patterns. Here we investigate possible underlying causes for the state of cortical hyperexcitability ... Read more...

Anesthetic-induced preconditioning delays opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore via protein Kinase C-epsilon-mediated pathway.

30 Jul 2009 BACKGROUND: Cardioprotection by volatile anesthetic-induced preconditioning (APC) involves activation of protein kinase C (PKC). This study investigated the importance of APC-activated PKC in delaying mitochondrial permeability transition pore ... Read more...

Practical use of the raw electroencephalogram waveform during general anesthesia: the art and science.

30 Jul 2009 Quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) monitors are often used to estimate depth of anesthesia and intraoperative recall during general anesthesia. As with any monitor, the processed numerical output is often misleading and has to be interpreted ... Read more...
