Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors - Pharmacology
Research News and Information

Definition of 'Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors'

A class of drugs whose main indications are the treatment of hypertension and heart failure. They exert their hemodynamic effect mainly by inhibiting the renin-angiotensin system. They also modulate sympathetic nervous system activity and increase prostaglandin synthesis. They cause mainly vasodilation and mild natriuresis without affecting heart rate and contractility.

Common names: Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors; Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitors; Antagonists, Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme; Antagonists, Angiotensin Converting Enzyme; Angiotensin I-Converting Enzyme Inhibitors; Angiotensin I Converting Enzyme Inhibitors

Long-term effects of perindopril on left ventricular structure and function in patients with stable coronary artery disease: a conventional and Doppler tissue echocardiographic pilot study.

29 Sep 2009 OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the long-term effects of perindopril on left ventricular (LV) systolic and diastolic function in patients with stable coronary artery disease who had previously undergone coronary artery bypass ... Read more...

Role of renin-angiotensin system blockade in patients with diabetes mellitus.

13 Sep 2009 The investigators review the evidence of the potential role of renin-angiotensin system (RAS) blockers in delaying or preventing the onset and progression of diabetes mellitus (DM) and cardiovascular disease and the suggested mechanisms by which ... Read more...

Decreased renal perfusion rapidly increases plasma membrane Na-K-ATPase in rat cortex by an angiotensin II-dependent mechanism.

31 Aug 2009 To understand how rapid changes in blood pressure can regulate Na-K-ATPase in the kidney cortex, we tested the hypothesis that a short-term (5 min) decrease in renal perfusion pressure will increase the amount of Na-K-ATPase in the plasma membranes ... Read more...
