Research News and Information

Definition of 'Angiotensin II'

An octapeptide that is a potent but labile vasoconstrictor. It is produced from angiotensin I after the removal of two amino acids at the C-terminal by ANGIOTENSIN CONVERTING ENZYME. The amino acid in position 5 varies in different species. To block VASOCONSTRICTION and HYPERTENSION effect of angiotensin II, patients are often treated with ACE INHIBITORS or with ANGIOTENSIN II TYPE 1 RECEPTOR BLOCKERS.

Metoprolol reduces cerebral tissue oxygen tension after acute hemodilution in rats.

30 Oct 2009 BACKGROUND: Perioperative beta-blockade and anemia are independent predictors of increased stroke and mortality by undefined mechanisms. This study investigated the effect of beta-blockade on cerebral tissue oxygen delivery in an experimental model ... Read more...

Additive beneficial effects of lactotripeptides and aerobic exercise on arterial compliance in postmenopausal women.

23 Sep 2009 Central arterial compliance plays an important role in the functional abilities of the vasculature. Two active tripeptides, valine-proline-proline and isoleucine-proline-proline, were isolated from sour milk and were referred to as lactotripeptides ... Read more...

Angiotensin-(1-7), an alternative metabolite of the renin-angiotensin system, is up-regulated in human liver disease and has antifibrotic activity in the bile-duct-ligated rat.

12 Sep 2009 Ang-(1-7) (angiotensin-1-7), a peptide product of the recently described ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) homologue ACE2, opposes the harmful actions of AngII (angiotensin II) in cardiovascular tissues, but its role in liver disease is unknown. ... Read more...
