Apraxia, Ideomotor - Diagnosis
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Apraxia, Ideomotor'A form of APRAXIA characterized by an acquired inability to carry out a complex motor activity despite the ability to mentally formulate the action. This condition has been attributed to a disruption of connections between the dominant parietal cortex and supplementary and premotor cortical regions in both hemispheres. (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, p57) Common names: Apraxia, Ideomotor; Apraxias, Ideomotor; Ideomotor Apraxias; Ideomotor Apraxia; Classic Apraxia; Apraxia, Classic; Apraxias, Classic; Classic Apraxias; Apraxia, Limb Kinetic; Apraxias, Limb Kinetic; Kinetic Apraxia, Limb; Kinetic Apraxias, Limb; Limb Kinetic Apraxia; Limb Kinetic Apraxias |

Association of ideomotor apraxia with frontal gray matter volume loss in corticobasal syndrome.
29 Sep 2009
OBJECTIVE: To determine the brain areas associated with specific components of ideomotor apraxia (IMA) in corticobasal syndrome (CBS). DESIGN: Case-control and cross-sectional study. PARTICIPANTS: Forty-eight patients with CBS and 14 control ... Read more...

Patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) often show impaired manual dexterity even when being only minimally bradykinetic, suggesting that they may have limb kinetic apraxia (LKA), that is, a loss of fine motor skill not explained by elemental motor ... Read more...
Effects of ideomotor apraxia on functional outcomes in patients with right hemiplegia.
30 May 2008
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ideomotor apraxia on activities of daily living and to determine if the presence of apraxia interferes with rehabilitation. This study was conducted on 47 patients with right hemiplegia. All the ... Read more...
