Atherectomy
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Atherectomy'Endovascular procedure in which atheromatous plaque is excised by a cutting or rotating catheter. It differs from balloon and laser angioplasty procedures which enlarge vessels by dilation but frequently do not remove much plaque. If the plaque is removed by surgical excision under general anesthesia rather than by an endovascular procedure through a catheter, it is called ENDARTERECTOMY. Common names: Atherectomy; Atherectomies; Percutaneous Atherectomy; Atherectomies, Percutaneous; Atherectomy, Percutaneous; Percutaneous Atherectomies; Percutaneous Transluminal Atherectomy; Atherectomies, Percutaneous Transluminal; Atherectomy, Percutaneous Transluminal; Percutaneous Transluminal Atherectomies |

Arteriovenous fistula complicating directional atherectomy of the popliteal artery.
29 Sep 2009
We describe a case of a 70-year-old man with a critical popliteal artery stenosis treated by directional atherectomy and complicated by a huge arteriovenous fistula. A 70-year-old man, previously treated by bilateral femoropopliteal bypass, was ... Read more...

The treatment of below knee arterial disease has undergone a gradual shift over the last few years to incorporate a greater proportion of endovascular treatments. Not only does this include patients who now have endovascular therapy rather than ... Read more...

Critical limb ischemia (CLI) is an endstage manifestation of peripheral artery disease (PAD) and typically describes patients with ischemic rest pain (Rutherford Category 4), or patients with ischemic skin lesions, either ulcers or gangrene ... Read more...
