Definition of 'Audiometry'The testing of the acuity of the sense of hearing to determine the thresholds of the lowest intensity levels at which an individual can hear a set of tones. The frequencies between 125 and 8000 Hz are used to test air conduction thresholds and the frequencies between 250 and 4000 Hz are used to test bone conduction thresholds. Common names: Audiometry; Audiometries |
Another cause for conductive hearing loss with present acoustic reflexes.
30 Oct 2008
There are numerous potential causes of conductive hearing loss (HL). It is important to obtain a thorough history and perform a complete examination, including audiometric testing and radiographic evaluation when necessary. In this report, we ... Read more...
Preauricular skin tags and ear pits are associated with permanent hearing impairment in newborns.
29 Sep 2008
OBJECTIVES: Our goals were to (1) study the prevalence of hearing impairment in a large cohort of infants with preauricular skin tags or ear pits and compare it with that among all other newborns participating in our universal newborn hearing ... Read more...
Ototoxicity of artemether/lumefantrine in the treatment of falciparum malaria: a randomized trial.
14 Sep 2008
BACKGROUND: Due to increasing drug resistance, artemisinin-based combination chemotherapy (ACT) has become the first-line treatment of falciparum malaria in many endemic countries. However, irreversible ototoxicity associated with ... Read more...
