Definition of 'Blood Viscosity'

The internal resistance of the BLOOD to shear forces. The in vitro measure of whole blood viscosity is of limited clinical utility because it bears little relationship to the actual viscosity within the circulation, but an increase in the viscosity of circulating blood can contribute to morbidity in patients suffering from disorders such as SICKLE CELL ANEMIA and POLYCYTHEMIA.

Supplementation with magnesium and vitamin E were more effective than magnesium alone to decrease plasma lipids and blood viscosity in diabetic rats.

29 Jun 2009 Although magnesium and vitamin E (VE) have differing effects on diabetes, both are beneficial. We hypothesized that preventive supplementation of magnesium combined with VE could improve the metabolism of lipids and blood viscosity more effectively ... Read more...

Primary therapy of Waldenström macroglobulinemia with bortezomib, dexamethasone, and rituximab: WMCTG clinical trial 05-180.

6 Jun 2009 PURPOSE: We examined the activity of bortezomib, dexamethasone, and rituximab (BDR) in patients with symptomatic, untreated Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM). PATIENTS AND METHODS: A cycle of therapy consisted of bortezomib 1.3 mg/m(2) ... Read more...

Bioavailability of salvianolic acid B and effect on blood viscosities after oral administration of salvianolic acids in beagle dogs.

25 May 2009 Salvianolic acid B (SalB) is an active component isolated from Chinese herbal medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza. The aim of this study was to investigate the extent of absolute oral bioavailability (F) of SalB in beagle dogs and the effect on blood ... Read more...
