Bone Density - Physiology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Bone Density'The amount of mineral per square centimeter of BONE. This is the definition used in clinical practice. Actual bone density would be expressed in grams per milliliter. It is most frequently measured by X-RAY ABSORPTIOMETRY or TOMOGRAPHY, X RAY COMPUTED. Bone density is an important predictor for OSTEOPOROSIS. Common names: Bone Density; Bone Densities; Density, Bone; Bone Mineral Density; Bone Mineral Densities; Density, Bone Mineral; Bone Mineral Content; Bone Mineral Contents |

Osterix enhances BMSC-associated osseointegration of implants.
30 Oct 2009
Cellular and molecular events in osseointegration at the dental implant surface remain largely unknown. We hypothesized that bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) participate in this process, and that osterix (Osx) promotes implant osseointegration. To ... Read more...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Recent studies have pointed to potentially periodontal risk indicators, however no information is available on the impact of changes in thyroid hormone levels on the progression of periodontitis and on the quality of ... Read more...
Metabolic osteopathy in celiac disease: importance of a gluten-free diet.
29 Sep 2009
Reduced bone mineral density (BMD) is frequently found in individuals with untreated celiac disease (CD), possibly due to calcium and vitamin D malabsorption, release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and misbalanced bone remodeling. A gluten-free diet ... Read more...
