Bone Density
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Bone Density'The amount of mineral per square centimeter of BONE. This is the definition used in clinical practice. Actual bone density would be expressed in grams per milliliter. It is most frequently measured by X-RAY ABSORPTIOMETRY or TOMOGRAPHY, X RAY COMPUTED. Bone density is an important predictor for OSTEOPOROSIS. Common names: Bone Density; Bone Densities; Density, Bone; Bone Mineral Density; Bone Mineral Densities; Density, Bone Mineral; Bone Mineral Content; Bone Mineral Contents |

The osteo-anabolic effects of intermittent parathyroid hormone (PTH) treatment require insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signaling through the IGF-I receptor. A major downstream target of the IGF-I receptor (via Akt) is the mammalian target of ... Read more...
Calcium phosphate cements improve bone density when used in osteoporotic sternums.
30 Oct 2009
PURPOSE: Calcium phosphate cements control bleeding and are safe to use in osteoporotic sternums during open heart surgery. We looked at the clinical and radiographic effects of this agent on bone healing. DESCRIPTION: Since March 2006, 18 patients ... Read more...
Spasticity and bone density after a spinal cord injury.
30 Oct 2009
STUDY DESIGN: Descriptive, cross-sectional study. OBJECTIVE: To assess the relationship between spasticity and bone mineral density in the lower extremities in individuals with a motor complete spinal cord injury. METHODS: Eighteen individuals, ... Read more...
