Definition of 'Brain'

The part of CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM that is contained within the skull (CRANIUM). Arising from the NEURAL TUBE, the embryonic brain is comprised of three major parts including PROSENCEPHALON (the forebrain); MESENCEPHALON (the midbrain); and RHOMBENCEPHALON (the hindbrain). The developed brain consists of CEREBRUM; CEREBELLUM; and other structures in the BRAIN STEM.

Calcium/calmodulin-dependent serine protein kinase and mental retardation.

29 Sep 2009 Calcium/calmodulin-dependent serine protein kinase (CASK) belongs to the membrane-associated guanylate kinase protein family. The members of this protein family function as multiple domain adaptor proteins originally identified at cell junctions and ... Read more...

Brain CYP1A in seabream, Sparus aurata exposed to benzo(a)pyrene.

29 Sep 2009 This study compares basal and induced expression of cytochrome P4501A-CYP1A in the brain of gilthead seabream, Sparus aurata. Larval or adult seabream were exposed to benzo(a)pyrene -B(a)P- and the CYP1A response was assessed by analyzing CYP1A mRNA ... Read more...

PKM zeta restricts dendritic arbor growth by filopodial and branch stabilization within the intact and awake developing brain.

28 Sep 2009 The molecular mechanisms underlying activity-dependent neural circuit growth and plasticity during early brain development remain poorly understood. Protein kinase Mzeta (PKMz), an endogenous constitutively active kinase associated with late-phase ... Read more...
