Calcitonin
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Calcitonin'A peptide hormone that lowers calcium concentration in the blood. In humans, it is released by thyroid cells and acts to decrease the formation and absorptive activity of osteoclasts. Its role in regulating plasma calcium is much greater in children and in certain diseases than in normal adults. Common names: Calcitonin; Calcitrin; Thyrocalcitonin; Calcitonin(1-32); Eel Calcitonin; Calcitonin, Eel; Ciba 47175-BA; Ciba 47175 BA; Ciba 47175BA |

Heparin-binding protein: an early marker of circulatory failure in sepsis.
29 Sep 2009
BACKGROUND: The early detection of circulatory failure in patients with sepsis is important for successful treatment. Heparin-binding protein (HBP), released from activated neutrophils, is a potent inducer of vascular leakage. In this study, we ... Read more...

Modeling of thymic epithelial differentiation has been guided by several important underlying assumptions. One is that within epithelial tissues derived from pharyngeal endoderm, FoxN1 expression is signature for the thymic epithelial lineage. ... Read more...
