Calcium Signaling
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Calcium Signaling'Signal transduction mechanisms whereby calcium mobilization (from outside the cell or from intracellular storage pools) to the cytoplasm is triggered by external stimuli. Calcium signals are often seen to propagate as waves, oscillations, spikes or puffs. The calcium acts as an intracellular messenger by activating calcium-responsive proteins. Common names: Calcium Signaling; Calcium Signalings; Signaling, Calcium; Signalings, Calcium; Calcium Spikes; Calcium Spike; Spike, Calcium; Spikes, Calcium; Calcium Waves; Calcium Wave; Wave, Calcium; Waves, Calcium; Calcium Oscillations; Calcium Oscillation; Oscillation, Calcium; Oscillations, Calcium |

Odontoblast TRP channels and thermo/mechanical transmission.
30 Oct 2009
Odontoblasts function as mechanosensory receptors because of the expression of mechanosensitive channels in these cells. However, it is unclear if odontoblasts direct the signal transmission evoked by heat/cold or osmotic changes. This study ... Read more...
Navigating the leukocyte signaling maze guided by Ariadne's thread.

Regulations of intracellular protein kinase C (PKC) on carbachol (CCh)-induced intracellular calcium ([Ca(2+)]i) responses were investigated in different stages of melanoma cells. We found that CCh (1 mM) significantly increased [Ca(2+)]i with 6-, ... Read more...
