Definition of 'Centrifugation'

Process of using a rotating machine to generate centrifugal force to separate substances of different densities, remove moisture, or simulate gravitational effects. It employs a large motor-driven apparatus with a long arm, at the end of which human and animal subjects, biological specimens, or equipment can be revolved and rotated at various speeds to study gravitational effects. Ultra scale-down prediction using microwell technology of the industrial scale clarification characteristics by centrifugation of mammalian cell broths.

29 Sep 2009 This article describes how a combination of an ultra scale-down (USD) shear device feeding a microwell centrifugation plate may be used to provide a prediction of how mammalian cell broth will clarify at scale. In particular a method is described ... Read more...

Vestibular effects on cerebral blood flow.

21 Sep 2009 BACKGROUND: Humans demonstrate a number of unique adaptations that allow for the maintenance of blood pressure and brain blood flow when upright. While several physiological systems, including cerebral autoregulation, are involved in this adaptation ... Read more...

Cytologic examination of hemorrhagic fluid by capillary centrifugation: a new technique.

30 Aug 2009 OBJECTIVE: To develop a simplified technique for processing hemorrhagic body fluids, allowing elimination of red blood cells (RBCs) to obtain tumor cell-rich cytosmears for accurate diagnosis of malignancy. STUDY DESIGN: Hemorrhagic fluid is ... Read more...
