Definition of 'Cholesterol, VLDL'

Cholesterol which is contained in or bound to very low density lipoproteins (VLDL). High circulating levels of VLDL cholesterol are found in HYPERLIPOPROTEINEMIA TYPE IIB. The cholesterol on the VLDL is eventually delivered by LOW-DENSITY LIPOPROTEINS to the tissues after the catabolism of VLDL to INTERMEDIATE-DENSITY LIPOPROTEINS, then to LDL.

Common names: Cholesterol, VLDL; Prebetalipoprotein Cholesterol; Cholesterol, Prebetalipoprotein; VLDL Cholesterol; Pre-beta-Lipoprotein Cholesterol; Cholesterol, Pre-beta-Lipoprotein; Pre beta Lipoprotein Cholesterol; Very Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol

Decreased serum lipids in patients with probable Alzheimer's disease.

30 Jul 2009 Alzheimer;s disease (AD) is a multifactorial disease but its aetiology and pathophisiology are still not fully understood. Epidemiologic studies examining the association between lipids and dementia have reported conflicting results. High total ... Read more...

Control of ACAT2 liver expression by HNF4{alpha}: lesson from MODY1 patients.

26 May 2009 OBJECTIVE: ACAT2 is thought to be responsible for cholesteryl ester production in chylomicron and VLDL assembly. Recently, we identified HNF1alpha as an important regulator of the human ACAT2 promoter. Thus, we hypothesized that MODY3 (HNF1alpha ... Read more...

Changes in serum homocysteine level follow two different trends in patients during early post myocardial infarction period.

29 Apr 2009 The evolution of homocysteine (Hcy) changes after acute myocardial infarction is still not elucidated. Serum Hcy concentration has been shown to increase between acute and convalescent period after myocardial infarction and stroke. Also a decrease ... Read more...
