Cholinergic Agents
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Cholinergic Agents'Any drug used for its actions on cholinergic systems. Included here are agonists and antagonists, drugs that affect the life cycle of ACETYLCHOLINE, and drugs that affect the survival of cholinergic neurons. The term cholinergic agents is sometimes still used in the narrower sense of MUSCARINIC AGONISTS, although most modern texts discourage that usage. Common names: Cholinergic Agents; Agents, Cholinergic; Cholinergic Drugs; Drugs, Cholinergic; Cholinergics; Acetylcholine Agents; Agents, Acetylcholine; Muscarinic Agents; Agents, Muscarinic; Muscarinics; Nicotinic Agents; Agents, Nicotinic; Cholinomimetics |

Nicotinic receptors: allosteric transitions and therapeutic targets in the nervous system.
30 Aug 2009
Nicotinic receptors - a family of ligand-gated ion channels that mediate the effects of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine - are among the most well understood allosteric membrane proteins from a structural and functional perspective. There is also ... Read more...

Although cholinergic modulation of the cochlear nucleus (CN) is functionally important, neither its cellular consequences nor the types of receptors conveying it are precisely known. The aim of this work was to characterise the cholinergic effects ... Read more...
A hydrosoluble triphenylene that preferentially binds acetylcholine, epibatidine, and nicotine.
15 Jul 2009
Synthesis and binding properties of a new hydrosoluble triphenylene 1b are reported. Selective recognition of acetylcholine (ACh) against other aliphatic ammoniums is achieved by this flat receptor, which also forms complexes with epibatidine and ... Read more...
