Complex Regional Pain Syndromes
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Complex Regional Pain Syndromes'Conditions characterized by pain involving an extremity or other body region, HYPERESTHESIA, and localized autonomic dysfunction following injury to soft tissue or nerve. The pain is usually associated with ERYTHEMA; SKIN TEMPERATURE changes, abnormal sudomotor activity (i.e., changes in sweating due to altered sympathetic innervation) or edema. The degree of pain and other manifestations is out of proportion to that expected from the inciting event. Two subtypes of this condition have been described: type I; (REFLEX SYMPATHETIC DYSTROPHY) and type II; (CAUSALGIA). (From Pain 1995 Oct;63(1):127-33) |

[Implication of genetic polymorphism on neuropathic pain]
30 Aug 2009
Various conditions are categorized to neuropathic pain, many of which are intractable requiring investigation using multiple approaches. Genetic polymorphism is one of such research fields that have provided much insight into conditions including ... Read more...
Outcome of the complex regional pain syndrome.
30 Aug 2009
OBJECTIVES: The outcome of complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is relatively unknown. High disease resolution rates have been reported, but also long-lasting impairments in many patients. This study aims to assess CRPS outcome in a ... Read more...

BACKGROUND: Sympathetic blockade is used in the management of complex regional pain syndromes in children, but there are no data on the efficacy or mechanism(s) by which it produces pain relief. The purpose of this study is to compare the efficacy ... Read more...
