Confounding Factors (Epidemiology)
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Confounding Factors (Epidemiology)'Factors that can cause or prevent the outcome of interest, are not intermediate variables, and are not associated with the factor(s) under investigation. They give rise to situations in which the effects of two processes are not separated, or the contribution of causal factors cannot be separated, or the measure of the effect of exposure or risk is distorted because of its association with other factors influencing the outcome of the study. |

Somatosensory evoked potentials during mild hypothermia after cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Nov 2009
OBJECTIVE: In patients who remain in a coma after cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the bilateral absence of cortical N20 responses of median nerve somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP) 24 hours after admission invariably correlates with a poor ... Read more...
High prevalence of abnormal nocturnal oximetry in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Nov 2009
OBJECTIVES: We sought to determine the prevalence of nocturnal oxygen desaturation and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in a population of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). BACKGROUND: The coexistence of sleep apnea and HCM, 2 common ... Read more...
Triggering of nocturnal arrhythmias by sleep-disordered breathing events.
Nov 2009
OBJECTIVES: This study sought to evaluate respiratory disturbances as potential triggers for arrhythmia in patients with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB). BACKGROUND: SDB is associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation and nonsustained ... Read more...
