Insertion/deletion polymorphism in alpha2-adrenergic receptor gene is a genetic risk factor for sudden cardiac death.

29 Sep 2009 BACKGROUND: Adrenoceptors mediate contraction of vascular smooth muscle and induce coronary vasoconstriction in humans. A deletion variant of the human alpha(2B)-adrenoreseptor of glutamic acid residues has been associated with impaired receptor ... Read more...

Accelerated telomere shortening in leukocyte subpopulations of patients with coronary heart disease: role of cytomegalovirus seropositivity.

19 Sep 2009 BACKGROUND: Shortening of mean telomere length (TL) in white blood cells is correlated with the development of coronary heart disease (CHD) and with increased mortality due to infectious disease. The goal of the present study was to investigate ... Read more...

APOE genotype, lipids, and coronary heart disease risk: a prospective population study.

8 Aug 2009 BACKGROUND: The risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) may be related to genetic mutations in the production of apolipoprotein E via alterations to the metabolism of CHD-related blood lipids such as low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and ... Read more...
