Definition of 'Corpus Striatum'

Striped gray and white matter consisting of the NEOSTRIATUM and paleostriatum (GLOBUS PALLIDUS). It is located in front of and lateral to the thalamus in each cerebral hemisphere. The gray substance is made up of the CAUDATE NUCLEUS and the lentiform nucleus (the latter consisting of the GLOBUS PALLIDUS and PUTAMEN). The white matter is the internal capsule.

Common names: Corpus Striatum; Striatum, Corpus; Lenticular Nucleus; Nucleus, Lenticular; Nucleus Lentiformis; Lentiformis, Nucleus; Lentiform Nucleus; Nucleus, Lentiform

C957T polymorphism of dopamine D2 receptor gene affects striatal DRD2 in vivo availability by changing the receptor affinity.

29 Sep 2009 The C957T polymorphism of the human dopamine D2 receptor gene (DRD2) regulates DRD2 availability in striatum in vivo. Specifically, the T allele predicts high DRD2 availability in healthy volunteers (T/T>T/C>C/C). However, this finding was ... Read more...

Lower level of endogenous dopamine in patients with cocaine dependence: findings from PET imaging of D(2)/D(3) receptors following acute dopamine depletion.

30 Aug 2009 OBJECTIVE: Previous positron emission tomography (PET) imaging studies have demonstrated that cocaine dependence is associated with a decrease in dopamine type 2 and 3 (D(2)/D(3)) receptor binding in cocaine-dependent individuals relative to healthy ... Read more...

Increase of striatal dopamine transmission in first episode drug-naive schizophrenic patients as demonstrated by [(123)I]IBZM SPECT.

13 Aug 2009 Acute psychotic exacerbation in schizophrenia is associated with a "striatal hyperdopaminergic state". The aim of this investigation was to test this hypothesis by assessing striatal dopamine D(2) receptor availability using single photon emission ... Read more...
