Research News and Information

Definition of 'Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone'

A peptide of about 41 amino acids that stimulates the release of ADRENOCORTICOTROPIC HORMONE. CRH is synthesized by neurons in the PARAVENTRICULAR NUCLEUS of the HYPOTHALAMUS. After being released into the pituitary portal circulation, CRH stimulates the release of ACTH from the PITUITARY GLAND. CRH can also be synthesized in other tissues, such as PLACENTA; ADRENAL MEDULLA; and TESTIS.

Common names: Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone; Corticotropin Releasing Hormone; ACTH-Releasing Hormone; ACTH Releasing Hormone; Corticoliberin; CRF-41; Corticotropin-Releasing Factor-41; Corticotropin Releasing Factor 41; Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone-41; Corticotropin Releasing Hormone 41; CRF (ACTH)

Exaggerated response of a vasopressin-enhanced green fluorescent protein transgene to nociceptive stimulation in the rat.

19 Oct 2009 Nociceptive stimulation elicits neuroendocrine responses such as arginine vasopressin (AVP) release as well as activation of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal axis. We have generated novel transgenic rats expressing an AVP-enhanced green fluorescent ... Read more...

Central nesfatin-1 reduces dark-phase food intake and gastric emptying in rats: differential role of corticotropin-releasing factor2 receptor.

29 Sep 2009 Nesfatin-1, derived from nucleobindin2, is expressed in the hypothalamus and reported in one study to reduce food intake (FI) in rats. To characterize the central anorexigenic action of nesfatin-1 and whether gastric emptying (GE) is altered, we ... Read more...

Activity of the 5-HT1A receptor is involved in the alteration of glucocorticoid receptor in hippocampus and corticotropin-releasing factor in hypothalamus in SPS rats.

30 Jul 2009 Rats exposed to single-prolonged stress (SPS) showed enhanced inhibition of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) system and alteration in the glucocorticoid/mineralocorticoid receptor. Dysfunction of the HPA axis is one of the core ... Read more...
