Definition of 'Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone'

A peptide of about 41 amino acids that stimulates the release of ADRENOCORTICOTROPIC HORMONE. CRH is synthesized by neurons in the PARAVENTRICULAR NUCLEUS of the HYPOTHALAMUS. After being released into the pituitary portal circulation, CRH stimulates the release of ACTH from the PITUITARY GLAND. CRH can also be synthesized in other tissues, such as PLACENTA; ADRENAL MEDULLA; and TESTIS.

Common names: Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone; Corticotropin Releasing Hormone; ACTH-Releasing Hormone; ACTH Releasing Hormone; Corticoliberin; CRF-41; Corticotropin-Releasing Factor-41; Corticotropin Releasing Factor 41; Corticotropin-Releasing Hormone-41; Corticotropin Releasing Hormone 41; CRF (ACTH)

Corticotropin-releasing factor receptor antagonism within the dorsal raphe nucleus reduces social anxiety-like behavior after early-life social isolation.

10 Aug 2009 Social isolation of rats during the early part of development increases social anxiety-like behavior in adulthood. Furthermore, early-life social isolation increases the levels of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) receptors in the serotonergic ... Read more...

Effects of corticoliberin on synaptic transmission in rat olfactory cortex slices in a water immersion model of depression.

19 Jul 2009 Corticoliberin (corticotrophin-releasing factor, CRF, CRH) is an active regulator of endocrine, autonomic, and immune functions in stress, as well as a mediator of anxiety, determining the behavioral stress response. The present report describes ... Read more...

Hypothalamic neuronal histamine signaling in the estrogen deficiency-induced obesity.

6 Jul 2009 Menopause is one of the triggers that induce obesity. Estradiol (E2), corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), and hypothalamic neuronal histamine are anorexigenic substances within the hypothalamus. This study examined the interactions among E2, CRH, ... Read more...
