Creatine Kinase - Metabolism
Research News and Information

Definition of 'Creatine Kinase'

A transferase that catalyzes formation of PHOSPHOCREATINE from ATP + CREATINE. The reaction stores ATP energy as phosphocreatine. Three cytoplasmic ISOENZYMES have been identified in human tissues: the MM type from SKELETAL MUSCLE, the MB type from myocardial tissue and the BB type from nervous tissue as well as a mitochondrial isoenzyme. Macro-creatine kinase refers to creatine kinase complexed with other serum proteins.

Kaempferol protects against rat striatal degeneration induced by 3-nitropropionic acid.

11 Aug 2009 3-Nitropropionic acid (NPA) produces degeneration of striatum and some neurological disturbances characteristic of Huntington's disease in rodents and primates. We have shown that the flavonoid kaempferol largely reduced striatal damage induced by ... Read more...

Protective effects of caspase-9 and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors on ischemia-reperfusion-induced myocardial injury.

29 Jul 2009 The present study was designed to investigate the cardio-protective effect of Ac-LEDH-cmk a selective caspase-9 inhibitor and 5-aminoisoquinolinone a selective Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitor on ischemia and reperfusion induced apoptotic and ... Read more...

Experimental evidence that ornithine and homocitrulline disrupt energy metabolism in brain of young rats.

14 Jul 2009 Tissue accumulation of ornithine (Orn), homocitrulline (Hcit), ammonia and orotic acid (Oro) is the biochemical hallmark of patients affected by hyperornithinemia-hyperammonemia-homocitrullinuria (HHH) syndrome, a disorder clinically characterized ... Read more...
