Research News and Information

Definition of 'Cyclic GMP'

Guanosine cyclic 3',5'-(hydrogen phosphate). A guanine nucleotide containing one phosphate group which is esterified to the sugar moiety in both the 3'- and 5'-positions. It is a cellular regulatory agent and has been described as a second messenger. Its levels increase in response to a variety of hormones, including acetylcholine, insulin, and oxytocin and it has been found to activate specific protein kinases. (From Merck Index, 11th ed)

Impairment of intracerebral arteriole dilation responses after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Laboratory investigation.

30 Oct 2009 OBJECT: Cerebrovascular dysfunction after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) may contribute to ischemia, but little is known about the contribution of intracerebral arterioles. In this study, the authors tested the hypothesis that SAH inhibits the ... Read more...

Pharmacological stimulation of soluble guanylate cyclase modulates hypoxia-inducible factor-1alpha in rat heart.

12 Aug 2009 Mechanical load and ischemia induce a series of adaptive physiological responses by activating the expression of O(2)-regulated genes, such as hypoxia inducible factor-1alpha (HIF-1alpha). The aim of this study was to explore the interaction between ... Read more...

Nitric oxide and cGMP signal transduction positively regulates the motility of human neuronal precursor (NT2) cells.

12 Jul 2009 Developmental studies in both vertebrates and invertebrates implicate an involvement of nitric oxide (NO) signaling in cell proliferation, neuronal motility, and synaptic maturation. However, it is unknown whether NO plays a role in the development ... Read more...
