Cyclin-Dependent Kinase Inhibitor p27 - Genetics
Research News and Information

Definition of 'Cyclin-Dependent Kinase Inhibitor p27'

A cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor that coordinates the activation of CYCLIN and CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASES during the CELL CYCLE. It interacts with active CYCLIN D complexed to CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASE 4 in proliferating cells, while in arrested cells it binds and inhibits CYCLIN E complexed to CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASE 2.

Common names: Cyclin-Dependent Kinase Inhibitor p27; Cyclin Dependent Kinase Inhibitor p27; CDKN4 Protein; p27 CDK Inhibitor; CDK Inhibitor, p27; p27 Kip1 Protein; Kip1 Protein, p27; CDKN1B Protein; p27Kip1 Protein; CDK Inhibitor p27; p27, CDK Inhibitor; Cyclin-Dependent Kinase Inhibitor 1B

Transcription factor GATA-3 is essential for lens development.

30 Aug 2009 During vertebrate lens development, the anterior, ectoderm-derived lens vesicle cells differentiate into a monolayer of epithelial cells that retain proliferative potential. Subsequently, they exit the cell cycle and give rise to posterior lens ... Read more...

Xhairy2 functions in Xenopus lens development by regulating p27(xic1) expression.

30 Aug 2009 Lens of vertebrate eyes is derived from competent pre-placodal ectoderm in response to signal(s) from retinal lineage. We herein report that the Xenopus Hes gene Xhairy2, which is expressed in pre-placodal ectoderm, is required for lens development ... Read more...

Functional similarities and uniqueness of p27 and p57: insight from a knock-in mouse model.

20 Aug 2009 The cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors (CKIs) p27 and p57 are structurally similar, and their biochemical and cellular functions have been thought to be equivalent. However, mice deficient in either p27 or p57 exhibit markedly different phenotypes, ... Read more...
