Dentate Gyrus
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Dentate Gyrus'Gray matter situated above the gyrus hippocampi. It is composed of three layers. The molecular layer is continuous with the HIPPOCAMPUS in the hippocampal fissure. The granular layer consists of closely arranged spherical or oval neurons, called granule cells, whose AXONS pass through the polymorphic layer ending on the DENDRITES of pyramidal cells in the hippocampus. Common names: Dentate Gyrus; Gyrus, Dentate; Gyrus Dentatus; Fascia Dentata; Dentata, Fascia; Dentate Fascia; Fascia, Dentate |

OBJECT: Apoptosis is implicated in vasospasm and long-term sequelae of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). The authors observed that 17beta-estradiol (E2) can attenuate cerebral vasospasm, lower endothelin-1 production, and preserve normal endothelial ... Read more...
Mild hypothermia has no long-term impact on postischemic neurogenesis in rats.

BACKGROUND: Postischemic improvement of functional outcome by therapeutic hypothermia may be related to cerebral regeneration by postischemic neurogenesis. We investigated whether mild peri-ischemic hypothermia leads to a long-term increase in ... Read more...

Mature BDNF and its precursor proBDNF may both be secreted to exert opposite effects on synaptic plasticity in the hippocampus. However, it is unknown how proBDNF and mature BDNF affect the excitability of GABAergic interneurons and thereby regulate ... Read more...
