Dermatitis, Atopic - Immunology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Dermatitis, Atopic'A chronic inflammatory genetically determined disease of the skin marked by increased ability to form reagin (IgE), with increased susceptibility to allergic rhinitis and asthma, and hereditary disposition to a lowered threshold for pruritus. It is manifested by lichenification, excoriation, and crusting, mainly on the flexural surfaces of the elbow and knee. In infants it is known as infantile eczema. |

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is characterized by local and systemic T(H)2 responses to cutaneously introduced allergens and is a risk factor for asthma. Blockade of T(H)2 cytokines has been suggested as therapy for AD. OBJECTIVES: We sought to ... Read more...

BACKGROUND: Trafficking of dendritic cell (DC) subtypes to and from the skin plays a pivotal role in atopic dermatitis (AD). OBJECTIVES: We sought to determine the CCR pattern of epidermal DC subtypes and CCL expression in relation to the state of ... Read more...

The immunopathology behind atopic dermatitis (AD) involves a myriad of inflammatory cells and their mediators. Thymus and activation-regulated chemokine (TARC) plays a significant role in the inflammatory phase by recruiting CCR4(+) T(H)2 cells. In ... Read more...
