Diabetic Neuropathies - Blood
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Diabetic Neuropathies'Peripheral, autonomic, and cranial nerve disorders that are associated with DIABETES MELLITUS. These conditions usually result from diabetic microvascular injury involving small blood vessels that supply nerves (VASA NERVORUM). Relatively common conditions which may be associated with diabetic neuropathy include third nerve palsy (see OCULOMOTOR NERVE DISEASES); MONONEUROPATHY; mononeuropathy multiplex; diabetic amyotrophy; a painful POLYNEUROPATHY; autonomic neuropathy; and thoracoabdominal neuropathy. Peripheral neuropathy is a common complication of diabetes that leads to severe morbidity. In this study, we investigated the sensitivity of motor unit number estimate (MUNE) to detect early motor axon dysfunction in streptozotocin (STZ)-treated ... Read more...
Dyslipidemia-induced neuropathy in mice: the role of oxLDL/LOX-1.
8 Jul 2009
OBJECTIVE: Neuropathy is a frequent and severe complication of diabetes. Multiple metabolic defects in type 2 diabetic patients result in oxidative injury of dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons. Our previous work focused on hyperglycemia clearly ... Read more...
C-peptide and chronic complications in patients with type-2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome.
3 May 2009
INTRODUCTION: We investigated the relation between C-peptide levels and the prevalence of diabetic complications in patients with type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome. METHODS: This study includes all patients with diabetes and treated only ... Read more...
