Diabetic Neuropathies - Drug therapy
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Diabetic Neuropathies'Peripheral, autonomic, and cranial nerve disorders that are associated with DIABETES MELLITUS. These conditions usually result from diabetic microvascular injury involving small blood vessels that supply nerves (VASA NERVORUM). Relatively common conditions which may be associated with diabetic neuropathy include third nerve palsy (see OCULOMOTOR NERVE DISEASES); MONONEUROPATHY; mononeuropathy multiplex; diabetic amyotrophy; a painful POLYNEUROPATHY; autonomic neuropathy; and thoracoabdominal neuropathy. Ghrelin reverses experimental diabetic neuropathy in mice.
Sep 2009
Ghrelin, an acylated peptide produced in the stomach, increases food intake and growth hormone secretion, suppresses inflammation and oxidative stress, and promotes cell survival and proliferation. We investigated the pharmacological potential of ... Read more...

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) can induce loss of nociception as well as mechanical hyperalgesia and tactile allodynia. Pharmacological and clinical studies have shown that buprenorphine, a low-molecular-weight, lipophilic, opioid analgesic ... Read more...
Diabetic neuropathy: therapies on the horizon.
30 Aug 2009
OBJECTIVES: This is a review of emerging interventions from the recent preclinical and clinical literature that demonstrate the potential for effectiveness in the therapy of diabetic neuropathy (DN). DN is the most common complication of diabetes ... Read more...
