Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging - Methods
Research News and Information

Definition of 'Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging'

A diagnostic technique that incorporates the measurement of molecular diffusion (such as water or metabolites) for tissue assessment by MRI. The degree of molecular movement can be measured by changes of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) with time, as reflected by tissue microstructure. Diffusion MRI has been used to study BRAIN ISCHEMIA and tumor response to treatment.

Common names: Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Diffusion; Diffusion MRI; Diffusion MRIs; Diffusion Weighted MRI; MRI, Diffusion Weighted

Salivary glands: echo-planar versus PROPELLER Diffusion-weighted MR imaging for assessment of ADCs.

29 Sep 2009 PURPOSE: To compare the image distortion and the quantification variation in parotid gland apparent diffusion coefficients (ADCs) on periodically rotated overlapping parallel lines with enhanced reconstruction (PROPELLER) versus echo-planar ... Read more...

Locally advanced rectal cancer: added value of diffusion-weighted MR imaging in the evaluation of tumor response to neoadjuvant chemo- and radiation therapy.

29 Sep 2009 PURPOSE: To investigate the added value of diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the evaluation of complete response (CR) to neoadjuvant combined chemotherapy and radiation therapy (CRT) in patients with locally advanced rectal ... Read more...

Diffusion tensor imaging in cocaine dependence: regional effects of cocaine on corpus callosum and effect of cocaine administration route.

29 Sep 2009 Recent studies demonstrated that diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) can provide information regarding white matter integrity of the corpus callosum (CC). In this study, DTI parameters were compared between cocaine dependent subjects (CDs) and non-drug ... Read more...
