Definition of 'DNA Primers'

Short sequences (generally about 10 base pairs) of DNA that are complementary to sequences of messenger RNA and allow reverse transcriptases to start copying the adjacent sequences of mRNA. Primers are used extensively in genetic and molecular biology techniques.

Common names: DNA Primers; Primers, DNA; Oligodeoxyribonucleotide Primers; Primers, Oligodeoxyribonucleotide; Oligonucleotide Primers; Primers, Oligonucleotide

Molecular mechanism for lateral lipid diffusion between the outer membrane external leaflet and a beta-barrel hydrocarbon ruler.

18 Oct 2009 Membrane-intrinsic enzymes are embedded in lipids, yet how such enzymes interrogate lipid substrates remains a largely unexplored fundamental question. The outer membrane phospholipid:lipid A palmitoyltransferase PagP combats host immune defenses ... Read more...

Anopheles gambiae alkaline phosphatase is a functional receptor of Bacillus thuringiensis jegathesan Cry11Ba toxin.

18 Oct 2009 Alkaline phosphatases (ALPs, EC 3.1.3.1) isolated from lepidopteran and dipteran species are identified as receptors for Cry1Ac and Cry11Aa toxins, respectively [Jurat-Fuentes, J. L., and Adang, M. J. (2004) Eur. J. Biochem. 7, 3127-3135; Fernandez, ... Read more...

A duplex real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction assay for the detection of California serogroup and Cache Valley viruses.

29 Sep 2009 A duplex TaqMan real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was developed for the detection of California (CAL) serogroup viruses and Cache Valley virus (CVV), for use in human surveillance. The targets selected for the ... Read more...
