Dominance, Ocular - Physiology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Dominance, Ocular'The functional superiority and preferential use of one eye over the other. The term is usually applied to superiority in sighting (VISUAL PERCEPTION) or motor task but not difference in VISUAL ACUITY or dysfunction of one of the eyes. Ocular dominance can be modified by visual input and NEUROTROPHIC FACTORS. Common names: Dominance, Ocular; Ocular Dominance; Eyedness; Eye Dominance; Dominance, Eye |

Transformation of polarized light information in the central complex of the locust.
21 Sep 2009
Many insects perceive the E-vector orientation of polarized skylight and use it for compass navigation. In locusts, polarized light is detected by photoreceptors of the dorsal rim area of the eye. Polarized light signals from both eyes are ... Read more...

Neural activity was recorded in area PE (dorsorostral part of Brodmann's area 5) of the posterior parietal cortex while monkeys performed arm reaching toward memorized targets located at different distances from the body. For any given distance, arm ... Read more...
Orientation disparity: a cue for 3D orientation?
30 Aug 2009
Orientation disparity, the difference in orientation that results when a texture element on a slanted surface is projected to the two eyes, has been proposed as a binocular cue for 3D orientation. Since orientation disparity is confounded with ... Read more...
