Drug Tolerance
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Drug Tolerance'Progressive diminution of the susceptibility of a human or animal to the effects of a drug, resulting from its continued administration. It should be differentiated from DRUG RESISTANCE wherein an organism, disease, or tissue fails to respond to the intended effectiveness of a chemical or drug. It should also be differentiated from MAXIMUM TOLERATED DOSE and NO-OBSERVED-ADVERSE-EFFECT LEVEL. Common names: Drug Tolerance; Drug Tolerances; Tolerance, Drug; Tolerances, Drug |

Effect of anti-IFN{beta} antibodies on MRI lesions of MS patients in the BECOME study.
Nov 2009
BACKGROUND: Interferon beta (IFNbeta) administered subcutaneously is immunogenic in some patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and leads to the development of neutralizing antibodies (NAbs). Considerable evidence has accumulated that NAbs diminish ... Read more...
19 Sep 2009
BACKGROUND: Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers reduce left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). The effect of these drugs on LVH in high-risk patients without heart failure is unknown. METHODS AND RESULTS: In ... Read more...
[Anti-opioid action of glutamate-NMDA receptor systems underlying morphine analgesic tolerance]
30 Aug 2009
Although the opioid analgesics such as morphine represent an important class of agents for the treatment of severe clinical pain, the development of tolerance and dependence often overshadows the therapeutic advantages of morphine and related ... Read more...
