Research News and Information
Definition of 'Ear'The hearing and equilibrium system of the body. It consists of three parts: the EXTERNAL EAR, the MIDDLE EAR, and the INNER EAR. Sound waves are transmitted through this organ where vibration is transduced to nerve signals that pass through the ACOUSTIC NERVE to the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. The inner ear also contains the vestibular organ that maintains equilibrium by transducing signals to the VESTIBULAR NERVE. |

OBJECTIVE: To compare short-term results of atresia repair when performed before versus after microtia reconstruction. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective case review. SETTING: Tertiary otologic referral center. PATIENTS: Congenital aural atresia with or ... Read more...
Filtering to match hearing aid insertion gain to individual ear acoustics.
24 Aug 2009
When hearing aid gain is prescribed by software, gain is calculated based on the average acoustics for the age of patient, gender, mold type, and so on. The acoustics of the individual's ear often vary from the average values, so there will be a ... Read more...
