Definition of 'Endoplasmic Reticulum'

A system of cisternae in the CYTOPLASM of many cells. In places the endoplasmic reticulum is continuous with the plasma membrane (CELL MEMBRANE) or outer membrane of the nuclear envelope. If the outer surfaces of the endoplasmic reticulum membranes are coated with ribosomes, the endoplasmic reticulum is said to be rough-surfaced (ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM, ROUGH); otherwise it is said to be smooth-surfaced (ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM, SMOOTH). Molecular characterization of flubendiamide sensitivity in the lepidopterous ryanodine receptor Ca(2+) release channel.

Nov 2009 Flubendiamide is a benzenedicarboxamide derivative that shows selective insecticidal activity against lepidopterous insects. The specific modulatory effects of flubendiamide on ryanodine binding in insect muscle microsomal membranes suggest that the ... Read more...

ER-Golgi network--a future target for anti-cancer therapy.

30 Oct 2009 Tumor cell demise is an important event in the elimination of abnormal malignant cells and provides an important mechanism of natural tumor suppression. Abnormalities incapacitating these finely tuned processes provide a strong advantage for cancer ... Read more...

EIN2, the central regulator of ethylene signalling, is localized at the ER membrane where it interacts with the ethylene receptor ETR1.

21 Oct 2009 Genetic studies have identified the membrane protein EIN2 (ethylene insensitive 2) as a central component of ethylene signalling in Arabidopsis. In addition, EIN2 might take part in multiple hormone signalling pathways and in response to pathogens ... Read more...
