Definition of 'Endothelial Cells'

Highly specialized EPITHELIAL CELLS that line the HEART; BLOOD VESSELS; and lymph vessels, forming the ENDOTHELIUM. They are polygonal in shape and joined together by TIGHT JUNCTIONS. The tight junctions allow for variable permeability to specific macromolecules that are transported across the endothelial layer.

Common names: Endothelial Cells; Cell, Endothelial; Cells, Endothelial; Endothelial Cell; Vascular Endothelial Cells; Cell, Vascular Endothelial; Cells, Vascular Endothelial; Endothelial Cell, Vascular; Endothelial Cells, Vascular; Vascular Endothelial Cell; Capillary Endothelial Cells

Molecular mechanisms mediating protective effect of cAMP on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced human lung microvascular endothelial cells (HLMVEC) hyperpermeability.

29 Nov 2009 Up to date, the nature of the sepsis-induced vascular leakage is understood only partially, which limits pharmacological approaches for its management. Here we studied the protective effect of cAMP using endotoxin-induced hyperpermeability as a ... Read more...

Matrix association of latent TGF-beta binding protein-2 (LTBP-2) is dependent on fibrillin-1.

29 Nov 2009 The components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and their differential expression patterns play important roles in tissue formation. The deposition of latent TGF-beta binding proteins (LTBPs) to the ECM exhibit distinct distribution profiles. We ... Read more...

Lymphatic invasion detected by D2-40/S-100 dual immunohistochemistry does not predict sentinel lymph node status in melanoma.

30 Oct 2009 BACKGROUND: Sentinel lymph node biopsy provides important prognostic information with controversial therapeutic advantages. D2-40 is a novel immunohistochemical stain specific for lymphatic endothelium often utilized to study tumor lymphangiogenesis ... Read more...
