Facial Nerve Diseases - Physiopathology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Facial Nerve Diseases'Diseases of the facial nerve or nuclei. Pontine disorders may affect the facial nuclei or nerve fascicle. The nerve may be involved intracranially, along its course through the petrous portion of the temporal bone, or along its extracranial course. Clinical manifestations include facial muscle weakness, loss of taste from the anterior tongue, hyperacusis, and decreased lacrimation. Intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma: clinician beware.
30 Jul 2009
Intraparotid facial nerve schwannomas are rare neoplasms that are challenging to diagnose and manage. Many patients present with a painless, palpable facial mass. The presence of facial paralysis is variable. Imaging studies and fine-needle ... Read more...
