Glioma - Mortality
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Glioma'Benign and malignant central nervous system neoplasms derived from glial cells (i.e., astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and ependymocytes). Astrocytes may give rise to astrocytomas (ASTROCYTOMA) or glioblastoma multiforme (see GLIOBLASTOMA). Oligodendrocytes give rise to oligodendrogliomas (OLIGODENDROGLIOMA) and ependymocytes may undergo transformation to become EPENDYMOMA; CHOROID PLEXUS NEOPLASMS; or colloid cysts of the third ventricle. Analysis of IDH1 and IDH2 mutations in Japanese glioma patients.
29 Sep 2009
A recent study reported on mutations in the active site of the isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 (IDH1) gene in several types of gliomas. All mutations detected resulted in an amino acid exchange at position 132. We analyzed the genomic region spanning ... Read more...
Survival and functional outcome of childhood spinal cord low-grade gliomas. Clinical article.
30 Aug 2009
OBJECT: Intramedullary spinal cord low-grade gliomas (LGGs) are rare CNS neoplasms in pediatric patients, and there is little information on therapy for and outcome of these tumors in this population. Furthermore, most patient series combine adult ... Read more...
Low-grade gliomas in older patients: long-term follow-up from Mayo Clinic.
30 Aug 2009
BACKGROUND: Low-grade gliomas (LGGs) are uncommon in older patients, and long-term clinical behavior and prognostic factors are not well defined in this group. METHODS: The authors retrospectively searched their tumor registry for the records of ... Read more...
