Glioma - Pathology
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Glioma'Benign and malignant central nervous system neoplasms derived from glial cells (i.e., astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and ependymocytes). Astrocytes may give rise to astrocytomas (ASTROCYTOMA) or glioblastoma multiforme (see GLIOBLASTOMA). Oligodendrocytes give rise to oligodendrogliomas (OLIGODENDROGLIOMA) and ependymocytes may undergo transformation to become EPENDYMOMA; CHOROID PLEXUS NEOPLASMS; or colloid cysts of the third ventricle. PARP1 expression in pediatric central nervous system tumors.
13 Dec 2009
BACKGROUND: Despite advances in therapy, outcome in many high-grade pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors remains poor. The focus of neuro-oncology research has thus turned towards identifying novel therapeutic targets. Poly(ADP-ribose) ... Read more...
Radiopathological characteristics of cerebellar malignant glioma in adults.
25 Oct 2009
Our aim was to extract the radiopathological features of cerebellar malignant glioma in adults from the four cases we encountered. All four cases (two men and two women, aged 52-80 years; mean age, 67 years) had a floating sensation or vertigo at ... Read more...

The stem cell marker CD133/prominin-1, is a pentaspan membrane glycoprotein, which has also been identified as a cancer stem cell (CSC) marker in several solid tumor types, including those of the prostate, liver, colon and brain. The function of ... Read more...
