Definition of 'Glucose Oxidase'

An enzyme of the oxidoreductase class that catalyzes the conversion of beta-D-glucose and oxygen to D-glucono-1,5-lactone and peroxide. It is a flavoprotein, highly specific for beta-D-glucose. The enzyme is produced by Penicillium notatum and other fungi and has antibacterial activity in the presence of glucose and oxygen. It is used to estimate glucose concentration in blood or urine samples through the formation of colored dyes by the hydrogen peroxide produced in the reaction. (From Enzyme Nomenclature, 1992) EC 1.1.3.4.

Tunable protein-resistance of polycation-terminated polyelectrolyte multilayers.

8 Aug 2009 The prevention of nonspecific protein adsorption is a crucial prerequisite for many biomedical and biotechnological applications. Therefore, the design of robust and versatile methods conferring optimal protein-resistance properties to surfaces has ... Read more...

A soft and flexible biosensor using a phospholipid polymer for continuous glucose monitoring.

30 Jul 2009 A flexible biosensor using a phospholipid polymer to immobilization of glucose oxidase (GOD) was fabricated and tested. At first, an enzyme membrane formed by immobilizing GOD onto a porous polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane using the ... Read more...

Comparison of protein immobilisation methods onto oxidised and native carbon nanofibres for optimum biosensor development.

29 Jul 2009 The properties of native and oxidised graphene layered carbon nanofibres are compared, and their utilisation in enzyme biosensor systems using different immobilisation methods are evaluated. The efficient oxidation of carbon nanofibres with ... Read more...
