Glycosylation End Products, Advanced
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Glycosylation End Products, Advanced'Products derived from the nonenzymatic reaction of glucose and proteins in vivo that exhibit a yellow-brown pigmentation and an ability to participate in protein-protein cross-linking. These substances are involved in biological processes relating to protein turnover and it is believed that their excessive accumulation contributes to the chronic complications of diabetes mellitus. The podocyte in diabetic kidney disease.
12 Oct 2009
Approaching epidemic levels, diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is now the leading cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Microalbuminuria is an early clinical marker of DKD that results from damage to the glomerular filtration barrier at the level of ... Read more...

AIMS: Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) trigger an oxidative reaction which then accelerates endothelial cell apoptosis; this is a critical event in the process of diabetic vascular complications. We previously demonstrated that hepatocyte ... Read more...

30 Aug 2009
Accumulative evidence shows that type 2 diabetes patients have high fracture rate in spite of the absence of bone mineral density (BMD) reduction. The etiology and treatment of diabetes-related bone disease have recently attracted widespread ... Read more...
