Definition of 'HLA-B Antigens'

Class I human histocompatibility (HLA) surface antigens encoded by more than 30 detectable alleles on locus B of the HLA complex, the most polymorphic of all the HLA specificities. Several of these antigens (e.g., HLA-B27, -B7, -B8) are strongly associated with predisposition to rheumatoid and other autoimmune disorders. Like other class I HLA determinants, they are involved in the cellular immune reactivity of cytolytic T lymphocytes.

Dimorphic motifs in D0 and D1+D2 domains of killer cell Ig-like receptor 3DL1 combine to form receptors with high, moderate, and no avidity for the complex of a peptide derived from HIV and HLA-A*2402.

12 Sep 2009 Comparison of mutant killer cell Ig-like receptor (KIR) 3DL1*015 substituted at natural positions of variation showed that tryptophan/leucine dimorphism at position 283 uniquely changes receptor conformation and can strongly influence binding of the ... Read more...

Killer Ig-like receptor ligand mismatch directs NK cell expansion in vitro.

9 Sep 2009 NK cell alloreactivity is governed largely through failure to detect self-HLA class I ligands by the clonally distributed inhibitory killer Ig-like receptors (KIR) expressed on the NK cell surface. In this study, we investigated the extent to which ... Read more...

Impact of HLA in mother and child on disease progression of pediatric human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection.

13 Jul 2009 A broad Gag-specific CD8(+) T-cell response is associated with effective control of adult human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. The association of certain HLA class I molecules, such as HLA-B*57, -B*5801, and -B*8101, with immune control is ... Read more...
