Hypoxia-Ischemia, Brain
Research News and Information
Definition of 'Hypoxia-Ischemia, Brain'A disorder characterized by a reduction of oxygen in the blood combined with reduced blood flow (ISCHEMIA) to the brain from a localized obstruction of a cerebral artery or from systemic hypoperfusion. Prolonged hypoxia-ischemia is associated with ISCHEMIC ATTACK, TRANSIENT; BRAIN INFARCTION; BRAIN EDEMA; COMA; and other conditions. Common names: Hypoxia-Ischemia, Brain; Brain Hypoxia-Ischemias; Hypoxia Ischemia, Brain; Hypoxia-Ischemias, Brain; Brain Ischemia-Hypoxia; Brain Ischemia Hypoxia; Brain Ischemia-Hypoxias; Ischemia-Hypoxias, Brain; Ischemia-Hypoxia, Brain; Ischemia Hypoxia, Brain; Brain Hypoxia-Ischemia; Brain Hypoxia Ischemia |

Excessive cytosolic calcium ion (Ca(2+)) accumulation during cerebral ischemia triggers neuronal cell death, but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Capacitive Ca(2+) entry (CCE) is a process whereby depletion of intracellular Ca(2+) ... Read more...

BACKGROUND: Whether hypothermic therapy improves neurodevelopmental outcomes in newborn infants with asphyxial encephalopathy is uncertain. METHODS: We performed a randomized trial of infants who were less than 6 hours of age and had a gestational ... Read more...

Photochemically induced thrombosis of blood vessels in the prefrontal cortex in rats was shown to lead to ischemic infarcts in the lesion zone. Bilateral ischemic lesioning of the prefrontal cortex degraded measures of spatial memory when animals ... Read more...
